About
Our roots in Baldwin City started with Mary Louise Hancuff.
We started as an affordable housing option called “Hancuff Place.” Today, we are known as Baldwin Retirement Apartment Complex, Inc. (BRAC), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
BRAC is comprised of two apartment complexes, 1016 Orchard Lane Apartments and 1119 Jersey Street Apartments, offering 56 apartment units maintained by a dedicated, on-site staff. While 1016 Orchard Lane Apartments are offered to age 62 and over and all ages of disabled persons. 1119 Jersey Street Apartments are offered to age 18 and over and all ages of disabled persons.
Thanks to funding provided by Douglas County, we renovated 24 of our apartments. The funding provided the ability to modernize our older one-bedroom apartments, including the conversion of two apartments to be wheelchair accessible and comply with requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Additionally, it will allow a crucial update to our maintenance facilities.
